by Eric Bosman on September 10th, 2010With significant support from business leaders and neighborhood residents, a new stand-alone zoning district for the Buckhead Village is being considered for adoption by the City of Atlanta. Special Public Interest Zoning District 9 was developed by Urban Collage, Inc. in cooperation with Jordan Jones & Goulding with assistance from Troutman Sanders, RCLCo, and Kimley-Horn & Associates.
SPI-9 is the culmination of almost a decade of planning for the Buckhead Village. The ordinance extends street-level retail and streetscape requirements, includes development standards to ensure quality future development, and incorporates density bonuses and transfer of development rights to provide community amenities and encourage the creation of a walkable, urban village.
The ordinance was recently recommended for approval by Neighborhood Planning Unit-B on a 24-0 unanimous vote and was approved unanimously by the City’s Zoning Review Board on September 9, 2010. The ordinance will go before Atlanta City Council for adoption in early October.

The 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games are here!!
by Louis Johnson on September 23rd, 2010The 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) are upon us here in Lexington. The WEG are visiting America for the first time in its history and promise to bring much attention and activity to the Bluegrass area. Aside from cultural events that are associated with the games many planning and design projects have been pushed to the front burner and are now being completed in order to prepare the city for the estimated 300,000 visitors over the 16 day period. It has been estimated that $107 million in state, local and federal dollars are being invested in improvements at the Kentucky Horse Park as well as on other infrastructural and design projects, and another $151 million on projects that have been in waiting, some for up to 20 years. The impact of the games has only just begun to be felt as Lexington starts another chapter in its history.
